The ContiSportContact 5 P turned in an impressive performance to scoop first place in the tire test run by Australia’s Motor magazine (May 2017 issue). In the tests conducted in five disciplines on wet and dry tracks, the sporty summer tire finished well ahead of its eight competitors. The team from Motor tested tires in size 235/35 R 19 Y, with a Ford Focus RS as the test vehicle. The test took place at the Dragway and Motorsport Park in Sydney.
The magazine had compiled a line-up of tires from European, American and Asian brands for the test. Braking on wet and dry roads, wet and dry handling and slalom driving were the disciplines covered. The Continental tires took first place in wet and dry braking, and finished second in each of the handling categories. In the slalom test the ContiSportContact 5 P came third. Together that added up to a clear overall victory. Summing up, the magazine’s experts wrote, “And there is little doubt about the winner. Consistent front to back, and lively with a bit of an edge: Great wetweather performance, too.”
The ContiSportContact 5 P is a particularly sporty summer tire used both as original equipment and in the replacement market. Its successor, the SportContact 6, is now available in many sizes from 19 inches upwards.
